Our History

Medicap Pharmacy was established in Decorah, Iowa by Michael Daughton and his wife Carole. Susan Burks had worked part-time for the Daughton's and bought the pharmacy from them in January of 1999.

Medicap Pharmacy moved to its present location at 702 Montgomery Street in October of 2000. Medicap Pharmacy has been a member of the Decorah Chamber of Commerce since 1999 and has consistency supported Decorah Vikings and South Winn booster clubs, Luther College development campaigns and many local charitable organizations. We provide services to nursing homes in Decorah and Ossian,Iowa and we provide free delivery services daily in Decorah and on Tuesdays and Thursdays to Calmar and Ossian. We currently have three pharmacists on staff who are certified to provide immunizations, perform blood pressure checks and medication therapy consultations. We also have a highly experienced support staff consisting of a registered nurse, a licensed practical nurse and certified pharmacy technicians.

Our Staff

	Sue Burks, RPH grew up in Carroll, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in 1978. Sue and her husband Doug, who is also a U. of Iowa pharmacy graduate, worked in hospitals in the Quad Cities for 8 years until Doug became the Director of Pharmacy at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah, Iowa. Sue worked as a relief pharmacist in northeast Iowa and purchased Medicap Pharmacy from Mike Daughton in January 1999 and continues as the owner and pharmacist in charge. Sue is a member of the Iowa Pharmacy Association and the National Community Pharmacist's Association. Sue and Doug have two grown daughters.

	Mark Branum, RPh, PharmD, received his B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa and his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Creighton University.  He is an Iowa native and lives in Decorah with his wife and two children.  He is a member of ASCP, the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, and provides consultant pharmacy services to area nursing homes, specifically providing a medication therapy review for each resident.  Mark is certified to give vaccinations including seasonal flu and the shingles vaccine, and he is also certified for diabetic shoe fitting.  In his spare time he enjoys tennis, reading, the outdoors, and spending time with his family.
Mark Branum, R. Ph., PharmD
	Lori Rissman, R.Ph., Pharm.D., BCPS, is originally from West Union, Iowa. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Iowa. She then completed a primary care residency at the VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC. She is board certified in pharmacotherapy. She is a member of the Iowa Pharmacy Association. She provides medication therapy management to patients to promote the safe and effective use of medications. Lori is certified to provide seasonal flu and shingles vaccines. She especially enjoys helping patients with diabetes, including blood glucose monitor education and diabetic shoe fitting. Lori lives in Decorah with her husband and children. In her spare time she enjoys running and spending time with family and friends.
